Abingdon

Project Description:

Architectural design services for a semi detached property in Bramhall, Stockport

Proposed single storey rear extension.

Location:

Abingdon Road, Bramhall, Stockport Council

Scope of Works:
  • Existing plans and elevations
  • Proposed design layout options
  • Householder planning application submission
  • Acting as agent during the determination period

The clients were project managers and had a good idea of what result they were looking to achieve with the proposed single storey extension. Although they had experience of the building industry they were seeking to work with an architect who would understand their initial ideas and had a track record or delivering result. We were appointed on this basis, pulling together a rationalised approach to the internal layout and focusing on how to achieve their desired flow between spaces.

The existing entrance hallway and front reception rooms were generous sizes, so we focused the clients attention towards the rear of the property where there was scope to increase the living space. The existing kitchen was too small to serve a family home of this size and as a result we proposed a layout that would incorporate a utility, cloaks, WC, kitchen, dining room and the existing lounge. Through the removal of the existing rear wall, we were able to create an open plan arrangement that was connected to the garden via large crittall style glazing. This open and light space is accentuated further with the introduction of a rooflight that illuminates the central point of the extension.

The clients had a desire for an organised space that was proportionally balanced and we designed the glazing to be aligned equidistant from either sides of the room. The glazing was equally regular in its divisions which demonstrated how the proposal was considered in its detail at planning application stage.
