We take steps to ensure each project is approached on its individual merits with the following principals –

Understanding the Context
Assessing the site context and the client requirements in parallel is important to ensure suitable proposals are explored from the start. Often there are constraints such as the proximity of neighbouring properties that may influence a proposal and it is our duty as architects to inform clients of what may be appropriate in that scenario.

Technical Knowledge
We have a broad understanding of house typologies, period properties and construction methods which is particularly useful when it comes to working on domestic refurbishment and developments. We use our experience to make informative decisions on use of materials and how to respectfully integrate modern design.

Building a Reputation and Relationships
One of our key aims was to build a profile that was recognised locally and to maintain that high level or service consistently. We have taken the approach that we are primarily a service that should be open to review and ratings to ensure future customers have confidence to approach us. We are recognised locally as the highest rated architect on Google.

Navigating the Planning Process
This is one of the most complex and underestimated stages of the design process. Each council has it’s own policies and approaches to determining applications. As Northedge Architecture work in a range of locations across the north, we have extensive knowledge of how to negotiate with the planning departments in achieving the best results for our clients. In our first year we achieved 100% planning approval for over 25 projects in Manchester and the surrounding areas.

Economic Approach
We are often asked how we can achieve the best results economically. We focus the design process around the brief and initial budget, exploring options of how space can be used most effectively.  Also through refining the design process we are able to streamline our services to be time efficient as well as cost efficient.

Quality of Space
Our projects offer value in providing quality of space, improvements of lifestyle and daily conveniences. We explore various options at the feasibility study stage to refine these individual circumstances.

Open Communication
We believe in having an open dialogue and reducing formalities in the client-architect relationship. We often work out of weekday 9-5 hours to ensure we can have discussions about ideas when they are most relevant and convenient.

Sustainability and Wellbeing
This is a complex subject in itself and it is at the forefront of our technical design. We broadly take a fabric first approach to ensure our designs have high performance in terms of thermal efficiency and utilisation of natural means of daylight and ventilation which are essentials for personal wellbeing.

Continuing Relationships
Regardless of the scale of works or budget, the personable and professional service remains consistent and this had lead to many repeat clients approaching us to continue this working relationship.

Over the years we have worked with many contractors, engineers, consultants and suppliers in the industry and we are able to offer our clients links to this network of contacts.

We have extensive knowledge of technical detailing and build processes. We often visit during the construction stage to monitor progress, to clarify potential queries and develop technical solutions. This has resulted in an extensive portfolio of completed contemporary designs.

Umayr began his career working in London on the high profile project for the 2012 Olympic Velodrome and continued to work in the sports sector on other arena projects in West Yorkshire. Following a move to the North West, he took on the role of Project Architect designing and delivering unique residential projects for domestic and commercial clients. This includes schemes of varying scale and complexity, ranging from new build houses, conversions of existing properties, student accommodation and specialisms in elderly, social and autism care. Having this broad experience across the residential sector has enabled a thorough understanding of how people respond to their surroundings. It was this philosophy on designing for individual needs that led to the formation of Northedge Architecture. Northedge Meadow was the street Umayr grew up on and the company name is a regular reminder that the environment people live in plays a significant part on their education, working and personal lives.
